Wulfs' hopes of reaching their 6th JW Hunt Cup final since the turn of the Millennium came to a disappointing end courtesy of a 3-2 defeat against WMRL Division One leaders Stafford Town.
Stafford were quickest out of the blocks and created two good chances in the opening three minutes, the first when Morgan Hurley was gifted the ball with just the keeper to beat but hit a weak shot at the keeper and then the same player was halted by an excellent last ditch tackle by Joey Williams.
The early pressure told as Stafford took a 21st minute lead after Wulfs had again given away possession. The ensuing break saw the ball deflected into the path of Paul McMahon and he made no mistake from 12 yards out.
Wulfs finally got going and equalised five minutes later. Danny Crudgington carried the ball out from the back before playing it out left to Andy Mitchell. He crossed in to the middle where Danny Crudgington had continued his run and headed home.
This was the start of a purple patch for Wulfs and they took the lead in the 31st minute. Danny Crudgington's left wing corner was headed against the underside of the crossbar by Kyle Brady but Ricky Anslow was on hand to head home the rebound from close range.
It very nearly got better still in the 34th minute as Danny Crudgington's hanging cross was scraped away by keeper Paul Burn straight to Andy Mitchell but his low shot was saved at point blank range.
This was to prove crucial as Stafford equalised just three minutes later when a quick break down the left ended with Morgan Hurley squaring for an unmarked Paul McMahon to guide home.
Stafford should have taken the lead at the start of the second half when McMahon set up Hurley but he shot wide from a good position.
After a spate of substitutions it was Stafford who netted the all important deciding goal on 79 minutes when sub Ollie Gore drove into the area before firing a low shot in at the near post.
After being beaten by AFC in this cup for the last two seasons, Stafford had finally got their revenge.
