AFC Wulfrunians 3  Ludlow Town 1  AET

Tuesday 19th January 2010 KO 19.45
Castlecroft Stadium

After an enforced midwinter break of five and a half weeks, the last thing either side needed was extra time but that's what it took for Wulfs to edge past Ludlow Town in the first round of the League Cup.

Tim Tipton had a strong squad to choose from with just James Skedgel, Richie Palmer and Andy Mitchell missing while Ludlow had assembled a strong side of their own.

Wulfs enjoyed plenty of possession from the start and almost took the lead in the 6th minute when Kyle Brady hit a dipping 20 yard shot that hit the underside of the bar and bounced out to safety.

The woodwork came to Ludlow's rescue again in the 22nd minute when Danny Crudgington's dangerous cross came off the face of the bar.  Natty Lawson retrieved the ball and laid back to Liam Evans who hit a curling shot just past the post from the edge of the area.

Ludlow gave Wulfs a warning before taking the lead in the 38th minute.  First Stuart Corns' cross from the left was sliced on to the roof of his own net by Natty Lawson and then the resulting corner from Ashley Watson was forced home at the back post by
Luke Davies.

Wulfs continued to enjoy the lions share of possession into the second half and struck the woodwork once more when Natty Lawson's awkward cross was pushed on to the bar by the keeper before being collected at the second attempt.

Ludlow were dangerous on the break with Lewis Welch shooting just over before being foiled by a great last ditch tackle by Tony Collins, Jez Harman seeing his follow up shot well saved.

Liam Evans saw another curling effort pushed wide before Wulfs finally equalised in the 73rd minute.  Ricky Anslow broke the offside trap before drawing the keeper and unselfishly squaring for
Kyle Brady to score.

Both teams went close to grabbing a winner late on but the game went into extra time and it was Wulfs who made the breakthrough in the 115th minute when
Joey Williams steered home Ricky Anslow's low right wing cross.

In injury time
Ade Bandele exchanged passes with Kyle Brady before firing home a 3rd goal.
